PA Treasury Returns More Than $288,000 in Unclaimed Property During Event Hosted by Sen. Dush in Brookville, Jefferson County
Brookville, PA - Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity and Sen. Cris Dush (R-25) confirmed today that approximately $288,717 in unclaimed property is being returned to local residents and businesses following a recent event co-hosted by Dush, Sen. Joe Pittman (R-41) and Rep. Brian Smith (R-66).

On Feb. 15, 44 residents and business owners stopped by the Heritage House in Brookville, where they were helped in their search for unclaimed property by a member of the Treasury’s outreach team. Some of the most notable returns include more than $121,000 to an individual resident and more than $9,000 to a local municipality.

Unclaimed property can include dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance policies, contents of forgotten safe deposit boxes and more. Individuals who wish to search the unclaimed property database on their own may do so by visiting www.patreasury.gov/unclaimed-property.
The Pennsylvania Treasury Department is working to return more than $4.5 billion in unclaimed property. More than one in ten Pennsylvanians is owed unclaimed property, and the average claim is worth about $1,600.
During the last fiscal year, ending June 30, 2023, the department returned the most unclaimed property ever in a single year – almost $274 million.
