Treasurer Stacy Garrity Named Chair of NAST Pension Committee

Harrisburg, PA - Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity has been appointed to chair the National Association of State Treasurers’ (NAST) Pension and Trust Investment Committee.

The NAST Pension and Trust Investment Committee is made up of state treasurers and key staff from across the country. The committee helps develop policy for NAST in all pension-related matters, including issues regarding defined benefit and defined contribution systems, state-managed retirement savings programs, transparency and governance, and best practices for framing bipartisan approaches to retirement security.

In addition to directly managing investments of more than $46 billion in Commonwealth funds, Treasurer Garrity serves on the boards of the three largest pension systems in Pennsylvania, including the Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS), the State Employees’ Retirement System (SERS), and the Pennsylvania Municipal Retirement System (PMRS).

“I’m excited to lead this national committee and to work with Treasurers and other state financial leaders to explore policy initiatives that can improve pension systems and investments for the people we serve nationwid. Working closely with our three pension boards has given me great insight into the unique challenges that come with each fund’s portfolio. I believe these funds need to work with the best of intentions for their beneficiaries who depend on the plans’ solvency for their financial security.”

NAST’s membership is comprised of all state treasurers or state finance officials with comparable responsibilities from the United States, its commonwealths, territories, and the District of Columbia, along with employees of those agencies.

In the fall of 2022, Treasurer Garrity was elected the inaugural chair of NAST’s ABLE Savings Plan Network.
