Treasurer Stacy Garrity Announces ASL Interpreter Will Assist with PA ABLE Webinar
Interpreter expands accessibility to info about state’s disability savings program
Harrisburg, PA - Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced today the next informational webinar for the PA ABLE Savings Program, scheduled for Wednesday February 17, will feature an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter to increase accessibility to program information.
PA ABLE offers tax-advantaged savings options to Pennsylvanians with disabilities and their families. Saving with PA ABLE does not impact eligibility for important federal and state benefits, such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI, savings up to $100,000), Medical Assistance and others.
“PA ABLE expands savings opportunities for our family members, friends and neighbors with disabilities. Making sure information about PA ABLE is available to everyone is incredibly important, and I’m pleased that Treasury is able to work with an ASL interpreter for this webinar to make it easily accessible to more people.”
Pennsylvania State Treasurer, Stacy Garrity
The webinar will take place on Wednesday, February 17, at 12 p.m. You can register here.
PA ABLE accounts can be used to save and pay for disability-related expenses such as education, housing, transportation, health care, assistive technology and more. PA ABLE offers several savings options, including an interest-bearing checking account with an accompanying debit card. Account owners pay no federal or state income tax on savings growth on withdrawals for qualified disability-related expenses. Another PA ABLE exclusive benefit is a state income tax deduction for contributions up to $15,000 per year.
PA ABLE has been helping families save for disability-related expenses since 2017, and is a leader in the 18-member National ABLE Alliance. PA ABLE account owners’ assets account for nearly 30% of the Alliance’s assets. PA ABLE account owners and members of other ABLE programs recently saw a fee reduction when the Alliance surpassed $150 million in assets. PA ABLE currently has 4,582 accounts with $47.4 million in assets.
