Treasury holds more than $11,000 for southeastern PA non-profit immigration organizations
Harrisburg, PA – Pennsylvania Treasurer Joe Torsella today announced that six organizations in southeastern Pennsylvania that specialize in immigration services and advocacy are owed more than $11,000 in unclaimed property.
“Each June, we celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month here in Pennsylvania and across the nation. Now, more than ever, we must remind ourselves what this nation was built on. The fabric that is weaved into our everyday lives as Americans was sewn there by ancestors seeking a better life. These organizations work tirelessly to provide support and resources to migrant families in Philadelphia and I urge them to claim any property that is owed to them.”

Nationalities Service Center, Esperanza Health Center, Congreso de Latinos Unidos, Catholic Social Services, HIAS & Council Migration, and Juntos have property available for claim at the Pennsylvania Treasury. The value owed to each organization ranges from several hundred dollars to several thousand dollars.
Unclaimed property is any financial asset that has gone unclaimed for a period of time, usually three years. Under Pennsylvania law, businesses and government agencies are required to report this to Treasury. Each year, Treasury receives millions of dollars in unclaimed property – items such as abandoned bank accounts, forgotten stocks, uncashed checks and contents of safe deposit boxes.
At the end of 2017, Treasury announced that it had finished the year with a historic return totaling $254,122,398.05 in unclaimed property returned to Pennsylvania taxpayers. That amount represents the largest amount of property the department has returned in its history.
Last year, Good Morning America partnered with Treasurer Torsella to present the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) with a check for $91,505.04.
Claimants may search Treasury’s website for unclaimed property, or Treasury’s Bureau of Unclaimed Property is also available toll-free at 1-800-222-2046, to help conduct a thorough search for unclaimed property.
