PA Treasurer Rob McCord Says
Santa and Rudolph Have Unclaimed Property – You Might, Too!
About 1 in 10 Pennsylvanians have unclaimed property; $1.8 billion waiting to be claimed

Harrisburg – ‘Tis the season to spread good cheer, but for Roger Claus of Lewistown, Alice Holly of Verona, and other Pennsylvanians with holiday-themed names, it might also be the season to claim what is theirs, Pennsylvania State Treasurer Rob McCord said today.

“This time of year, we count our blessings during the holiday. The Pennsylvania Treasury’s Return Team also counted 125 ‘Blessings’ in our unclaimed property database and we want to reunite them with their property,” said Treasurer McCord.  “Highlighting some of the seasonal names in our database is part of our effort to return unclaimed property to rightful owners – and spread some holiday cheer in the process. Of course, even if your name is not as festive, you still have a one-in-10 chance of finding unclaimed property at www.patreasury.gov.”

Treasurer McCord encouraged Pennsylvanians who recognize a name on this list to call Treasury’s Return Team at 1-800-222-2046. Anyone can search for unclaimed property and initiate a claim online via Treasury’s database at www.patreasury.gov.

The Treasurer dispelled the notion that only individuals can have unclaimed property. Treasury’s unclaimed property database contains the names of many businesses – like Mistletoe, Inc. in Waynesburg – and organizations such as the AZA Menorah Chapter in Philadelphia.

Each year, Treasury receives millions of dollars in unclaimed property – things such as abandoned bank accounts, forgotten stocks, uncashed checks, and contents of safe deposit boxes. Treasurer McCord’s Return Team is working hard to locate the rightful owners of about $1.8 billion in unclaimed property. Since January 2009, the department has returned more than $288 million.

The McCord Treasury has generated more than $300 million for Pennsylvania’s General Fund through the Unclaimed Property Program since January 2009.
